Overview

This case study focuses on improving the livestream and video playback experience on TradeAlgo, a financial analytics platform used by active traders. The goal was to determine whether a redesigned interface, with clearer separation between livestreams and archived streams, would improve discoverability, task efficiency, and overall user satisfaction.

The problem

In the original video interface, livestreams and archived videos were presented in the same space, making it unclear which content was currently live. Users had to rely on contextual clues (like scheduled times) to determine livestream status, often leading to confusion and slow navigation.

Heuristic Analysis

To understand where the friction points were, I conducted a heuristic evaluation of the existing design using Jakob Nielsen’s usability heuristics. Key usability issues included:

Hypothesis

Introducing separate tabs for livestreams and previous streams, along with dedicated pages for video playback, will help TradeAlgo users find content more efficiently, reduce confusion, and improve the overall user experience.

Test Setup

To validate this hypothesis, I designed and conducted a usability test comparing the original and new versions of the livestream interface. This allowed me to evaluate whether the changes would lead to measurable improvements in task efficiency, ease of use, and user satisfaction.
